Healthy Foods For Toning Stomach

How To Lose Belly Fat And Tone Stomach?

Most people think that sit-ups, crunches and rigorous exercises are the only means to get a flat and toned abdomen. That is a myth, because most people are ignorant that healthy food and healthy eating habits are just as important for a toned stomach.

If you exercise hard but do not follow a healthy eating pattern, you will find it difficult to shed abdominal fat. You need to introduce the right foods and correct eating habits into your daily lifestyle.

Healthy Foods And Lifestyle Changes

  • The first step is to review the foods you eat and introduce small changes. Since it may be difficult to make large changes immediately, do not change your diet completely. Start gradually by substituting healthy foods like fruit bowls and juices for your morning doughnut or other unhealthy snacks.
  • Whenever possible, substitute white bread with wholegrain or wholemeal bread. Introduce brown rice and wholemeal pasta into your diet. Stick to fish like tuna, lean meat and egg whites.
  • Substitute fatty and overcooked foods with fresh (and wherever possible), raw vegetables and fruits. Nuts and herbs are also good for a lean abdomen.
  • Low carbohydrate and low-fat diets help to tone the muscles of the abdomen. Try to avoid sugar, saturated fats and caffeine as much as possible. This would mean cutting down on processed foods, cakes, pastries, sweets and soft drinks, since their calorific value is high and leads to rapid weight gain.
  • Drinking lots of water flushes out toxins.
  • Five foods which help to tone the abdomen muscles are beans, oatmeal, citrus fruits, asparagus and fish which are rich in Omega 3 fatty acids.

Healthy Eating Habits: Changes also need to be introduced in your eating habits.

While it may sound strange, eating more frequently is better since it speeds up the body’s metabolic rate. Eating 5 or 6 small meals throughout the day is helpful in getting a toned abdomen. You can break this up into 3 small meals, with 3 small snacks in-between. There are many reasons for this.

  1. Firstly, when you eat more frequently, you are always feeling full and thus do not tend to binge on food because of extreme hunger.
  2. Secondly, frequent meals means that your body is burning up more energy and hence more calories and fat in digesting the food, leading to a toned abdomen.
  3. And lastly, eating frequent meals raises the body’s metabolic rate. Our bodies tend to store fat for future use. When you starve yourself, the body reacts to this by slowing down its metabolic rate so that it can store more fat. But if you eat frequent meals, the body increases its metabolic rate, leading to burning of more calories.

Exercise: A little daily exercise like a brisk walk should also supplement a healthy diet, if you want a toned stomach.
