Fried Chicken Steak Recipe with Spicy Gravy

Chicken Fried Steak Recipe for Breakfast

Ingredients:

½ pound lean beef top round steak, cut into ½ inch thick
1/8 cup all purpose flour
½ egg whites
½ cup cereal, crushed cornflakes
1/8 cup buttermilk, low fat
½ tablespoon butter
Cooking spray
½ tablespoon Parmesan cheese, grated
½ cup milk, fat free
¼ teaspoon garlic powder
¼ teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon coriander, ground
1/8 teaspoon cumin, ground
1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
½ tablespoon all purpose flour
Dash of nutmeg, ground
Dash of salt

Chicken Steak Cooking Method:

  1. Preheat the oven to 425 degree Fahrenheit. Coat a baking dish with non stick cooking spray and set aside.
  2. Cut steak into 4 portions, ½ inch thick. Take a shallow dish and combine parmesan cheese, 1/8 cup all purpose flour, ¼ teaspoon salt, cumin, garlic powder, coriander and pepper.
  3. Take another shallow dish and combine buttermilk with egg whites. Beat this mixture with a wire whisk to get a foamy liquid.
  4. In another shallow dish place the crushed cornflakes.
  5. Take the steak pieces and dip in the flour mixture so as the steak pieces are coated with flour completely. Then dip this flour coated steak pieces in the egg mixture. Finally coat this steak pieces with crushed cornflakes and place on the prepared baking dish. Arrange the pieces in such a way that they remain separate on the dish. Bake for about 20-25 minutes or till the steak is well done and the steak coating is crisp. You may turn once while baking to get even crispy texture. Remove in a serving plate and serve hot with spicy gravy on top. This recipe serves two.
  6. For the spicy gravy: Melt butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir in ½ tablespoon all purpose flour and cook for about 2 to 3 minutes or till the flour begin to turn golden brown. Reduce the flame and slowly whisk fat free milk along with dash of salt and ground nutmeg. Cook this sauce on medium heat till it gets bubbly and thickened, stir frequently. Reduce the flame to low, cook and stir for another 1 minute.

Health tip:

  • Preferably use only fat free milk and low fat buttermilk in this recipe to keep the total calories low.
  • This recipe provides about 280 calories and 7 gm fat per serving.
  • Use only lean cuts of meat and trim all the visible fat from the beef before cooking.
