Stretch Marks Home Remedies

Stretch marks, medically referred to as striae gravidarum, are discolored lines that are formed on the surface of one’s skin. As the name suggests, these lines are formed when the skin is made to stretch beyond a certain limit, as a result of which the connective fibers present in the dermis, rupture and break. Pregnancy, puberty and rapid weight loss or weight gain, can all cause these unsightly marks to appear. While they do not pose to be a health threat in any manner, their appearance is generally not aesthetically appealing, hence they tend to become a cause for concern for many, particularly women. At first these marks are purple or dark red in color and over time they gradually fade to gain a discolored or off whitish hue.

Stretch marks, unfortunately, once formed are permanent, but with the help of a few home remedies, one can reduce their appearance to quite a considerable extent. Aloe vera gel is considered to be one of the best stretch marks home remedies. Slice a small piece of an aloe leaf into half and scoop out the thick gel. Apply a thin layer of this gel onto the affected area. Allow the application to stay on for about 15-20 minutes, after which rinse it off with cold water. This remedy needs to be performed twice a day on a regular basis, if one is to see positive results. Vitamin E oil is great for the skin and hence it works well on these marks. Benefits of vitamin E oil include rejuvenation and increased growth of new cells on the skin. Vitamin E oil is helpful for dry skin. Massage a few drops of this oil onto the marks. This needs to be done twice a day, once in the morning and once before bedtime. An alternative to vitamin E oil would be olive oil or lavender oil. They too will help in lightening the marks.

Stretch Marks Treatments: Blend together the contents of 4-5 vitamin E capsules, a quarter cup of olive oil, the liquid from 5 vitamin A capsules and a quarter cup of aloe vera gel. Pour the resultant mixture into a bottle and store it in the refrigerator. Apply this on to the affected area twice a day, regularly. This remedy is also known to work well on these marks.

Stretch Marks Diet: Consume a diet that is well balanced and healthy. Include plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables in your daily meals. Furthermore, increase the intake of vitamins C, A, and E. Consuming fruits and vegetables that are rich in these three vitamins will also help to a large extent.
