Dandruff Home Remedies
We don’t realize it, but we are always shedding dead skin cells. This is the way the body keeps itself healthy and rejuvenated. The interesting fact is that every 28 days, we get a complete new suit of skin. Since skin cells are so tiny, we don’t tend to notice when dead skin flakes away. So just like, we have dead skin shedding from all over our body, the scalp sheds dead skin too. Dandruff is these dead skin cells. But dandruff isn’t all that normal because it is so obvious and noticeable.
Research has shown that dandruff happens when malassezia, a yeast-like fungus, goes out of control on our scalp. This fungus always resides on the human head and feeds on oils secreted from the hair follicles. But sometimes, for reasons that are still not so concrete, this fungus goes out of control and causes irritation that speeds up the production of dead skin cells.
Here are some ways to get rid of dandruff.
Shampoo everyday to get rid of the dandruff. By shampooing, you can wash away the extra oils as well as dead skin flakes. It also keeps your hair healthy and glossy. You might also like to switch from one natural dandruff shampoo to another, to see which suits you best. Instead of using the same one for a long time, you can change to another brand. You must also think if getting an antidandruff shampoo. Check the ingredients in the shampoo and buy one that has zinc pyrithione because this dandruff shampoo ingredient can reduce ketoconazole, which can eliminate fungi; salicylic acid that scrubs off dead skin; selenium sulphide that can limit the turnover of cells and reduce the amount of fungus. Rotate your anti-dandruff shampoos because your favourite shampoo may stop working after some time, and you will need to use a shampoo from another brand for some affect. So try a quarterly programme. Use one shampoo for a month, switch to another one in the second month and to a third one on the third month. Repeat this cycle every quarter.
You must also lather twice when you are shampooing. When you lather the first time, it helps in getting rid of loose flakes as well as the build up of oil on your scalp and hair. When you lather for the second time, leave the shampoo on for a minute or two before rinsing off. This lets the shampoo penetrate the skin cells and do its job.
