Pink Eye Home Remedies

Conjunctivitis or pink eyes is a type of an eye ailment wherein the affected person’s eyes appear to be reddish and may even itch. Some people suffering from conjunctivitis or pink eye may even have a swelling around their eye accompanied with pus like discharge from the corner of their eyes. Rubbing the eyes on account of the itchiness while suffering from a pink eye should be avoided as it will spread the infection and further aggravate the problem. There are many natural remedies for pink eye or conjunctivitis which can be practiced from home itself such as the use of saline eye drops which sooth the eye and eases any discomfort faced by the individual. Another treatment to provide temporary relief is to wet a towel with warm water and place it over the infected eye. Once it cools off it should again be soaked in warm water and the process should be repeated. The swelling associated with a pink eye may also be taken care of with a cold compress.  Another home remedy for pink eye is the use of tea bags which are soaked in warm water. These tea bags should then be placed on the infected eyes and allowed to remain on thee eyes to provide relief from the pain and itching sensation, since tea has a component called tannin which helps in reducing any swelling around the eyes.

Diet for Conjunctivitis or Pink Eye: Those suffering from conjunctivitis or pink eye should be put onto a fruit based diet for at least four days if not a week. It is beneficial to consume fresh seasonal fruits except bananas as they slow down the healing process. Additionally while suffering from conjunctivitis foods that are rich in Vitamin A such as milk, almonds, yogurt, carrots, pumpkin etc should also be consumed.

Home Treatment for Pink Eye

An additional home treatment for pink eye is to prepare a boric powder eye wash. You can prepare this eye wash by mixing some boric acid powder in some warm water. Wash the infected eye with this solution first thing in the morning and just before going to bed at night. Pink eye or conjunctivitis is highly contagious and hence the infected person should wear dark glasses while moving in public so as to not infect another person. They should also avoid swimming and should not share their towels or clothes till the infection clears. Vegetable juices should be consumed while suffering from conjunctivitis as they are known to be very effective in treating this problem naturally.
