Lemon And Its Benefits For Herbal Cures

There are several causes for the appearance of brown spots on the skin. The most common type of skin discoloration is age spots, also known as brown spots or liver spots. These spots result from an excessive production of the pigment, Melanin. This pigment is produced by cells known as melanocytes. Melanin is produced in order to protect the inner layers of the skin from damage to the ultra violet radiation of the sun. Genetic factors are known to determine a person’s vulnerability to age spots.

As one ages, the likelihood of developing age spots also increases as there is an increased production of melanin. A condition known as keratosis also caused skin discolorations such as rough bumpy patches that are red or brown in color. Melasma also results in grey or brown discolorations on the skin. This condition is common in women and usually results due to genetics, hormonal changes and intake of certain medications. Sun exposure may cause aggravation of the condition.

Brown Spots Remedy Using Lemon And Vinegar

Since most skin discolorations are due to increased exposure to the sun’s ultra violet radiation, it is advisable to protect the skin when stepping outdoors. This would involve applying sunscreen with a sun protection factor or SPF of more than 30. Wearing a wide brimmed hat to shield the face from sunlight is also a good idea. There are also some home remedies which help to lighten brown spots that have already developed on the skin. These remedies produce results only with regular application.

Apple cider vinegar mixed with orange juice is known to help in getting rid of brown spots. Mix one teaspoon of orange juice with half a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and apply to the spots daily. One can also lighten brown spots by applying a paste of sandalwood powder and rose water to the affected areas of skin.

Another beneficial remedy for brown spots is lemon oil. Lemon oil possesses natural bleaching properties and is also effective in cleansing the skin. A couple of drops of lemon oil may be added to a carrier oil such as jojoba or almond oil, and then applied to the spots twice every day. One can also treat brown spots using castor oil. Castor oil is known to have anti-inflammatory properties and is acidic in nature. The oil is known to seep into the skin’s deeper layers and have a lightening effect on the spots.
