Home Remedies for Treating Tooth Cavity

Cavities are results of decaying teeth. When teeth decay causes destruction of the structure of the teeth. Tooth decay can affect both the enamel which is the outermost coating of teeth as well as the dentin layer of teeth. Tooth decay can give way to tooth ache. When food containing carbohydrates such as bread, milk, cereals, fruits, soda, candy or cakes are left on the tooth, tooth decay occurs. Bacteria residing in the mouth digest this food and convert it into acid. The acid, food debris, bacteria and saliva together form plaque which clings to the teeth. The acid present in plaque, dissolve the enamel surface of the teeth which creates hole in the teeth which are called cavities. There are several factors which can cause cavities. The mouth, teeth and toothbrush contain bacteria which settle on the teeth causing cavities.

Cavities can cause pain. Depending on the cavity, the pain can be mild or acute. Several home remedies are known to provide relief for toothache. However, for complete cure of a cavity, one has to consult a dentist. Add some salt to a glass of warm water. Gargle with this mixture at least twice daily. For temporary relief, one can also swish the mouth with alcohol. Ice compresses are also used to subside pain as well as inflammation. One of the oldest remedy for toothache is clove. Just place a clove on the affected tooth and chew on it for a while. Clove oil can also be used. Put a few drops of clove oil on a cotton ball and place it on the affected tooth. Let it stay there for a while. Garlic is also known to possess curing qualities. It is also anti-bacterial. A clove of garlic when crushed and placed on the tooth can help relieve pain. Rinsing mouth with vanilla extract is also effective in reducing pain.

Another useful remedy for toothache is using margosa sticks. One can use margosa sticks to clean teeth. These sticks can help prevent further infections and it is also anti-bacterial. Oregano oil, when applied on the affected tooth is known to provide relief. Chewing on ginger can reduce toothache. Turmeric powder can be used to clean teeth as a tooth powder. It will not only prevent bacterial growth, but also relieve pain. Maintaining proper dental hygiene can prevent cavities and infections. One must not only rely on home remedies for curing a tooth cavity. Consulting a dentist for proper treatment is important because the tooth can decay further till the roots which will aggravate the situation.
