Home Treatment For Tonsillitis And Tonsils Remedy

Inflammation and swelling of the tonsils is referred to as tonsillitis. The lymph nodes situated between the mouth and the throat are known as tonsils. The job of the tonsils is the filtration of bacteria and other infection-causing microorganisms. Viral or bacterial infection may overwhelm the tonsils causing swelling and inflammation, thereby resulting in tonsillitis. The inflammation may also spread to the adjoining areas in the throat and may cause the pharynx also to become inflamed. The pharynx is situated between the larynx or voice box and the tonsils. Tonsillitis commonly occurs in children, although it can develop in adults too.

Treatment For Tonsillitis And Viral Infection

This condition usually results from a viral infection. Tonsillitis can spread from one individual to another through the droplets that are expelled during sneezing or coughing. Tonsillitis can also be caused due to the bacteria that cause strep throat. Strep throat if left untreated can cause rheumatic fever which is a serious condition that can also damage the heart.
The symptoms of tonsillitis include pain and discomfort while swallowing, soreness in the throat, headache, fever, nausea, vomiting, cough, stomach pain, nasal discharge, swelling and reddening of the tonsils and the areas surrounding them, appearance of white spots on the tonsils, hoarseness and ear pain. The voice may also get affected due to inflammation around the voice box.

If the tonsillitis has been caused by a bacterial infection, then antibiotics may be administered to relieve the condition. It is important to complete the full dose of the antibiotic medication as if it were incomplete, the infection could recur. Adequate rest must also be taken in order to allow the healing process to take place. Taking warm liquids helps to ease the tenderness and pain.
