Foot Fungus Cure For Nail Fungus Treatment

The medical condition called onychomycosis is commonly referred to as toenail fungus. It is characterized by an infection caused by the fungus belonging to the group called dermatophytes. The fungus lodges itself into the small cracks and crevices of the toenail and begins to cause infection. It starts growing and spreading and thrives especially in the socks and shoes. When affected by toenail fungus, there occurs a buildup of foul smelling debris under the toenail. The affected toenails also become thick and hard. Discoloration takes place and the infected toenails begin to turn brownish yellow. There may also be the appearance of marks on the sides of the toenail and the infected toenails are also likely to fall off.

This kind of fungal infection can take place in the finger nails as well. Treatment is more difficult for the toenails and the big toenail and the smallest toenail are most prone to this infection. The fungal infection can occur in moist and damp areas such as pools, showers and gyms. It can also spread from one person to another due to direct contact or if personal belongings are shared. Fungal infection may also develop due to wearing tight socks or footwear as this can cause damage to the toenails, thereby allowing for the fungus to become lodged into the nail. Other factors that may cause toenail fungus are disruptions in the pH level of the skin, hampered immunity and feet that are constantly wet or damp.

Precautions For Toe Nail Fungus

Since this form of fungal infection is not easy to treat, it is imperative to take the precautionary measures to stop the condition from developing. Proper hygiene must be maintained in taking care of the toenails and feet. If you have visited warm and humid places such swimming pools and spas, then it is important that you clean the feet and toenails thoroughly after coming home. Also ensure that the feet are dried completely.

A natural remedy for treating the condition of toenail fungus is to apply tea tree oil to the affected toenails. Tea tree oil has natural anti-fungal and antiseptic properties and hence will help to combat the growth and spread of the fungus. Another home remedy that is believed to be effective in treating toenail fungus is to soak the toes in mouthwash. This too has antiseptic properties which are beneficial in fighting against the fungus. Soaking the toes in warm water to which apple cider vinegar has been added is also helpful in alleviating symptoms of toenail fungus. A mixture of olive oil and oregano oil may also be applied to the affected toenails.
