Remedies For Snoring Relief With Natural Herbal Remedies
While sleeping, some people suffer from an obstruction in the air movement, thus interfering with breathing. This causes the respiratory structures, uvula and soft palate, to vibrate, and this vibration is what we call snoring. When we sleep, the muscular tube called pharynx (throat) relaxes, thus becoming smaller in size. Sometimes the narrowing is so much that it causes the soft tissues in the pharynx to vibrate and produce the sound of snoring. Everyone makes breathing noises to some level while sleeping. It’s just that in some people it’s louder than the others.
Causes And Treatment Of Snoring
This is usually the result of certain physical factors. For example, a person who has a blockage in the nasal passage is more likely to snore. Also, the muscles in the tongue and soft palate tend to relax when we sleep. If the muscle tone is weak, the muscles tend to collapse altogether, making a person snore more audibly. The decrease in muscle tone of the tongue is also a reason why older people tend to snore more. Nasal blockage because of cold and cough, consumption of alcohol, and physical exhaustion are also some reasons that make a person snore.
Though snoring is usually involuntary and harmless, it can be quite disturbing for anyone sleeping at the side or for that matter, anyone else in the vicinity! It is therefore always better to get rid of the problem than let it cause inconvenience. First of all, losing weight and staying fit is known to treat the problem of snoring. Have a proper diet and follow an exercise regime to shed the extra weight, and you may snore less or even completely stop snoring. Smoking too is not only detrimental to one’s health in general but also aggravates snoring, as it causes nasal congestion and mucous in the throat, thus resulting in snoring. Similarly, alcoholic beverages also need to be avoided to reduce or stop snoring.
Alcohol makes the tissues and muscles in the throat more relaxed, leading to snoring. Consuming very heavy, oily or spicy food at night also aggravates snoring. You should therefore always opt for a healthy and light dinner. Try not to lie on your back when you sleep, as this makes the tongue fall back toward the throat, thereby blocking the airway. Sleeping on your side tends to reduce snoring. You should also maintain fixed sleeping hours and keep your room dust free to reduce snoring.
Taking two to three sips of olive oil before going to bed is said to lower the noise level and eventually stop snoring. You can also steep a bunch of sage leaves in boiling water. Let the liquid cool until it is warm and then strain it and gargle with the liquid before going to bed.
