Dry tooth discoloration can be caused by numerous factors. One of the main causes includes smoking. For example, for those people who are undergoing some kind of radiation and chemotherapy, one of the side effects includes their teeth getting discolored. Certain types of mouth washes and rinses are known to contain cetylpyridinium chloride and can cause staining of one’s teeth. Various drugs like antipsychotic drugs and antihistamines are also known to lead to tooth discoloration. Even excessive use of fluoride can lead to this condition. Fluoride can be found in toothpastes, fluoride supplements, rinses, fluoride applications and other environmental sources.
Hence some of the basic remedies to help in reducing tooth discoloration include reducing one’s intake of cigarettes and also caffeine found in coffee and other stimulants. There are various other foods products that one should avoid including tea, chocolates etc. Foods that are high in sugars and carbohydrates are termed as tooth decaying foods and should be avoided as much as possible. All simple types of sugar products including table sugar and honey contain sucrose or leyulose and can lead to teeth staining. Even milk and other milk products can lead to teeth discoloration.
People should brush on a regular basis and also floss regularly. Basic dental hygiene goes a long way in reducing any tooth discoloration problems that might exist. Visiting a dentist every six months is highly recommended. If at any time one’s tooth appears discolored and there is no reasonable explanation for this then in these cases it is advisable to visit the dentist for a check up. Consumption of vitamin C can help in reducing this problem.
