Home Remedies for Crabs

Pubic lice also very commonly referred to as crabs are very tiny parasites that infest an individual’s genital area. This is an extremely contagious condition that is spread from one person to the next by way of sexual contact. Although pubic lice are found in the genital area, it is not uncommon for them to be present among other body hair, such as the beard, mustache, eyelashes, eyebrows, hair on one’s legs and in the armpits. One of the most predominant symptoms associated with this condition is a severe itching sensation in the genital region. The parasite gets its name, simply because it resembles a crab when viewed under a microscope. Pubic lice are not the same as head lice. Pubic lice unlike head lice are round in shape.

Here are a few simple home remedies for crabs that can help in pubic lice treatment. When an individual is being treated for crabs, it is important that they advice their sexual partner to do so too. This is because he or she stands a very high chance of being infected too. Furthermore, any kind of sexual activity should be avoided till treatment is complete and the lice have been gotten rid off. Do not scratch the affected area as it may damage the skin, which then in turn may lead to a secondary infection. In addition to this, the eggs and nits may get trapped under the nails, thus spreading to other parts of the body. Clip the pubic hair short, as this will make the lice visible. Do not shave the area as it will simply aggravate the skin further.

Mix together equal quantities of warm water and vinegar. Then prepare a mixture by combining a tablespoon each of lime juice, honey sugar and salt. The mixture needs to be both thick as well as granular. Set this mixture aside. Dip a thick cotton wad into the vinegar and water mixture, and then hold the wet cotton against the genital area. Make sure that it is pressed firmly against the skin. After about 30 minutes, take the cotton wad off. Now take the mixture that has been set aside and gently scrub the pubic area with it. This will help in getting rid of the nits and lice. Prepare a decoction by boiling a handful of margosa leaves in 500 ml of water. This solution, when added to bath water, will also help in getting rid of the lice.
