Home remedies for getting rid of lice

Lice a common word for the medical term Pediculosis. There are three types of lice Head lice, Body lice or pubic lice (also known as crab) which affects human beings. The most common of all these is Head lice which is mostly found in school children and more in girls than in boys. Lice have sharp claws that help it to hold on tightly onto the strand of the hair or clothing. Lice pierce the skin with their sharp claws injecting irritating saliva and suck the blood. Lice are active and hence can travel fast which is why they are so easily transmitted. The life cycle of an egg to adult is one month. There is no link between personal hygiene and lice. Even though it is not considered as a serious problem but it causes a social embarrassment and a sign of unhygienic living condition. This problem will reoccur until the total cycle is destroyed. Hair which is not looked after well, dirty hair, unclean scalp could be more prone to lice as they enjoy staying in dirty oily places. A person itches their scalp a lot in case of head lice. Lice die if they stay away from the human body for more than two days because they feed at least twice a day.

Some home remedies for getting rid of lice could be too shampoo your hair daily as this will definitely reduce the lice in your head. You could apply coconut oil after you shampoo as well as condition your hair. Also add a few drops of tea tree oil into the shampoo. Try and use this shampoo daily as it will get rid of lice effectively. Take the juice of an onion in a bowl and apply this on your scalp. Massage it slowly so that the juice is applied to your entire scalp and leave it for 3 to 4 hours after which you can wash your hair. The pungent odor will kill all the lice. Repeat this for at least 3 to 4 days to get rid of the cycle. You could also wash your hair with vinegar as this will kill the nits in two days. You could also try washing your hair with a mouth wash. Applying a mixture of lemon and butter on your head and rinse it after 15 minutes will also help get rid of the problem. Massage your head with mayonnaise and leave this for 2 hours. Comb your hair after this and then wash your hair.
