Home Remedies for Dandruff

Dandruff is one of the most common scalp conditions to be affected by and is characterized by the flaking of the skin in the scalp. Since the human skin is constantly being renewed and replaced by younger skin cells, when the skin cells on the scalp are renewed, the older skin cells are usually pushed upwards and out of the scalp. People affected by dandruff essentially have a faster than normal rate of renewal, which causes more dead skin to be shed – causing the dead skin flakes to become more noticeable. Dandruff is also known to be triggered when the skin of the scalp is exposed to frequently changing extreme temperatures. A more severe form of dandruff is known as seborrheic dermatitis and results in the skin becoming inflamed as well. Some of the other more prominent symptoms of dandruff include an intense itchiness around the scalp as well as crusting or scaling rash on the scalp. While the exact causes of the condition are still relatively unknown, a few of the contributing factors include irregular hair brushing patterns – as this aids the entire shedding process of the old skin cells, excessively dry skin, not enough shampooing or even a diet lacking in zinc, B vitamins and fats.

In the morning, wash your head thoroughly with the help of a mixture consisting of lemon juice and warm water, applied after you have rinsed your hair with the help of a shampoo. You could also try heating up some coconut oil and massaging your scalp with the same for a considerable period of time. Allow the oil to remain on your head overnight and wash it off in the morning. For best results, you should perform this treatment three times a week.
