Home Remedies for Constipation

Although constipation is a very common occurrence, it tends to be a very uncomfortable experience. Surprisingly, the condition is also very misunderstood. If an individual is used to having a bowel movement on a daily basis, which is quite normal, and doesn’t experience it for a single day, they may believe that they are suffering from constipation. Medically speaking however, constipation is defined as experiencing a bowel movement less than three times in the week. During an episode of constipation, the sufferers stool will usually be hard, dry, small in size and rather difficult to eliminate from the body. Something to remember is that constipation is usually a symptom and is not really a condition on its own. Constipation could be an indicator of the presence of an internal medical condition or even a poor diet. There are a number of factors that will cause constipation. The process involves the colon absorbing too much water or the muscle contractions of the colon being rather slow and sluggish – causing the stool to move through the colon at a much slower pace. Some of the more common factors that lead to constipation include an excessive intake of milk, a distinct lack of physical activity, an abuse of laxatives, dehydration and continually ignoring the urge to have a bowel movement.

Since the constipation is very common, there are a number of home remedies that have been developed all over the world to help relieve sufferers. One of the best constipation treatment options is to mix about ¼ teaspoon of Epsom salt in about ½ a glass of water and drink the concoction. Another natural cure option would be to mix equal quantities of carrot juice and spinach juice in a single glass and drink the concoction just before going to sleep. Drinking some orange juice as soon as you wake up in the morning, on an empty stomach, is known to be a very good remedy when it comes to treating constipation. You could also try consuming figs that have been soaked in water, first thing in the morning to experience considerable relief from the condition. Another option would be to immerse about 10 to 12 dry grapes without seeds in milk and heat the milk till it boils. Proceed to strain the milk and chew on the grapes while you drink the milk. Eating a guava on a daily basis first thing in the morning is one of the best methods of preventing constipation.
