Bladder Inflammation Treatment And Home Remedies

Bladder inflammation despite causing great distress and irritability is a socially embarrassing condition. It is characterized by a terrible sense of itching, burning sensation while urinating or the urge to urinate frequently despite visiting the bathroom a few minutes back.  It is also known as cystitis and can be an infection due to bacteria that enters the bladder. As this infection progresses, blood may be observed in the urine followed by other symptoms such as cramps after urination. Another form of bladder inflammation known as interstitial cystitis results in inflammation of the bladder wall and is a more serious condition as it can lead to scarring and stiffening of the bladder or even ulceration and bleeding.

Treating Bladder Inflammation At Home

There are quite a few home remedies available for treating bladder inflammation. Eat food rich in vitamin A and E especially if you have recurring bladder inflammations as vitamin E helps in supplying oxygen to the cells and also Zinc is needed to strengthen your immune system. Cranberry juice is effective as it helps in flushing out the bacteria and garlic capsules are very helpful as they act as natural antibacterial agents. Try avoiding caffeine and spicy food for some time as they can aggravate the condition.

Acidophilus cultures should be included in your diet as it helps in treating bladder infections relating to Candida and tricyclic antidepressants such as amitriptyline or imipramine help relax the bladder. Vitamin C is a great remedy for treating bladder inflammation.

The acid alkaline balance of urine is also known as its pH level. Pushing the urine’s pH towards the acid side provides an inhospitable environment in the bladder and can, therefore, help to slow down the growth of the bacteria. Vitamin C is known to increase the acidity of urine creating an unfavorable environment for bacteria and also helps the immune system in fighting the infection. If at all, vitamin C causes loose stools, reduce the dosage slightly and pregnant women should avoid any excessive intake of vitamin C.

It is still unclear as to how vitamin C helps in its treatment as there are no studies to prove it but this does help most women. It is recommended that you have a daily dose of 1000 milligrams of vitamin C which actually amounts to 14 oranges a day but because of the way your body metabolizes orange juice, it is not able to acidify your urine as efficiently as supplements do.
