Severely Cracked Heels Remedy At Home

Cracked heels, or medically termed as heel fissures, are the regular cut wounds in the shape of lines that are found on the heel of humans. Fissures signify lack of attention to foot care apart from the regular application of foot creams or moisturizers. Other reasons for cracked heel are dry skin or thick skin around the heels, long working hours that demand standing, hard floors, overweight issues, diseases like athlete’s foot or even diabetes.

Generally, the heels are the most affected as they are frequently used parts of the body. Fissures mainly affect the surface of the heel which is made up of the epidermis; however, it may get deep sometimes and can be very painful. This condition is mostly found with senior citizens or people who are always up on their feet.

Tips For Treating Cracked Heels

There are many remedies that have been tried and tested through the years for treatment of cracked heels. One can apply vegetable oil on their heels once their feet are clean and dry as application of oil every night and then covering it with a pair of socks can provide positive results in a couple of days. Another very commonly used remedy is soaking the heel in a bowl full of lemon juice. The heels need to be left soaking in the lemon juice for about 10 to 15 minutes and then removed and cleaned and this therapy should be repeated at least twice in a week to get results.

A daily schedule of cleaning and moisturizing the heel is a good remedy. For this, one needs to soak their heel in lukewarm soapy water for about 10 to 15 minutes, rinse and then dry the heel.  A healing mixture consisting of a teaspoon of Vaseline and the juice collected from one lemon can be applied to the heel. This mixture needs to be rubbed over the heel daily and should be repeated until results are obtained.

Apart from these remedies there is a certain diet that can be followed to regain vitamins, minerals and zinc as it is the deficiency of these compounds that lead to cracked heels. Also one needs to keep in mind to keep feet clean and covered from dust, regular exercises for their feet and to avoid walking bare feet as much as possible. One should treat dry or cracked heels as soon as they are spotted and should not be neglected till they become serious.
