Poison Ivy Blister Treatment And Poison Ivy Remedies

Reddish inflamed skin accompanied by red bump-like blisters or pimples, itching and burning in the affected area as well as fever are the symptoms indicative of contact with poison ivy. The rash that occurs can develop into a runny fluid and therefore it needs to be dried out. It is extremely possible that you will get poison ivy onto your hands, arms, legs, feet and sometimes even on other body parts such as your back and stomach if you were lying on the ground and the poison ivy came in contact with that area of skin. In the event that you get it on your face, or if it spreads towards the genital area, ensure that you seek medical attention immediately. Also, if you notice that the rash seems to be intense, do not look for natural remedies, but head directly to the doctor.

Tips And Precautions When Exposed To Poison Ivy Plant

If you suspect that you have been in contact with poison ivy, make sure you do not wash yourself with warm or hot water. The plant secretes oil which disperses itself and spreads when it comes in contact with warm or hot water. It is advisable to wash yourself in cold water to prevent the oil from spreading all over your body. Also, remember never to wash yourself in a bath tub as this will only result in the oil spreading to different parts of the body. Since the poison ivy disperses oil, the best remedy is to use something that can dissolve this oil. You can apply some dish washing detergent, which is very effective in dissolving grease, over the affected area and rinse it with cold water.

The detergent powder may sting slightly, but it is effective in providing you relief from your condition. You can also use Aloe vera gel to soothe the affected area. Another effective home remedy is to take equal parts of residue from sour raw milk, vinegar and salt and rub it into the rash. This may be painful initially, but it will provide relief within a few minutes. You can also prepare a paste by taking some baking soda and mixing it with water. This paste when applied on the affected area, acts in a manner identical to calamine lotion.

Oatmeal is also considered to be effective, in relieving the symptoms of poison ivy. Prepare the oatmeal as you would normally and let it cool down for a while. Then spread it over the affected area and let it dry. You may add a tablespoon of baking soda to prevent any oozing of the rash. Honey too is a great remedy. When applied over the affected area, it will help in reducing the burning and the itching of the rash.
