Home Remedies for Dark Eyes

Although dark circles do not pose to be a serious health threat, their appearance can often be the cause for concern. Dark circles have a tendency of making the face appear pale, drawn and unhealthy. These circles can be caused by a variety of reasons, some of which include; stress, depression and anxiety, lack of adequate sleep, improper lifestyle, aging, as a side effect of certain medications, excessive consumption of alcohol, excessive smoking, improper eating habits, hormonal changes, and kidney ailments.

One can reduce the appearance of dark circles with the help of a few simple and easy home remedies. Cucumber is one of the most commonly recommended remedies for dark circles. Take a medium sized cucumber and chop it into thin slices. Place a slice on each eye for about 10-15 minutes, after-which you can rinse your face with chilled water. This treatment should be performed twice a day regularly, till one begins to notice visible results. Grate a medium sized cucumber and then extract the juice. Place the freshly squeezed juice in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes to chill. Thereafter, dip two clean cotton balls in the chilled juice. Squeeze out the excess juice and then place a cotton ball on each eye for about 15 minutes. This treatment for dark eye circles will have a soothing effect and should be performed daily for positive results. Mix together two tablespoons each of freshly squeezed lime juice and tomato juice. Apply 2-3 drops of this liquid on to the under eye area. Let it dry for about 10 minutes, after-which rinse it off with chilled water.

Take a handful of mint leaves and crush them into a thick paste. Now squeeze out the juice and apply a few drops on to the concerned area, 2-3 times a day. This remedy is also known to be helpful. Mix together a teaspoon each of freshly squeezed cucumber juice and freshly squeezed potato juice. Apply a few drops of this mixture on the under eye area. Once the application has dried off, after 10-15 minutes, rinse it off with cold water. Drinking plenty of water is also important as it will help in getting rid of unwanted toxins from the body. Try and drink about 8-10 glasses daily. Consume a diet that is rich in fresh fruits and green vegetables as they will provide the body with all the necessary nutrients. Lastly, make sure that you get eight hours of sleep regularly and try and eliminate stress from your life.
