Treating Anemia For Energy And Vitality

Anemia can be a problem for anyone, but it is more prominent in women, especially if the woman is either menstruating or pregnant. Anemia occurs when the blood supply does not have enough red blood cells or the hemoglobin is reduced. This results in cells not being able to carry out their usual functions. It can lead to headaches, poor concentration, irritability, loss of appetite, fatigue, weakness, dizziness, depression, and cold fingers and toes.

A loss of blood is not the only reason that you can have anemia. Anemia can be a symptom of other disorders like arthritis, thyroid disorders, major illnesses, infections, drug use, drug reactions, liver damage or a deficiency in the diet.

Knowing The Cause Of Anemia For Anemia Treatment

The first thing to do to combat anemia is to understand the underlying cause. Some of these causes can be easily fixed. For instance, if it is from drug use, then the drugs need to be stopped. This, however, does not mean that you stop medications prescribed from a doctor without consulting the doctor. Another cause that is easily remedied is a dietary deficiency.

Some things that you can do to start helping reverse anemia are as follows:

  • Make sure you consume a variety of foods that contain iron. These include eggs, fish meat, poultry, green leafy vegetables, whole grains and iron-fortified breads and cereals.
  • Eat a variety of Vitamin C rich fruits like citrus and berries. These foods will help the body use the iron that is being consumed.
  • Folic acid helps promote the formation of red blood cells.
  • Vitamin B12 helps promote the formation of red blood cells.
  • Brewer’s yeast is rich in nutrients that help the blood.
  • Copper and zinc are minerals that help promote the production of red blood cells.
  • Nettle is not only rich in iron but also contains vitamin C and chlorophyll.
  • Alfalfa, cherry, goldenseal, red raspberry, bilberry and pau d’arco should be included in the diet.
  • Iron supplements can be used if enough iron is not being absorbed through diet. Make sure that you speak to your doctor before you take any supplements.
  • It is important to have adequate iron levels to help keep the body healthy. If the iron levels are too low, it can lead to low oxygen levels because the red blood cells cannot do their job.
  • This can lead to damage of organs that rely on this oxygen. On the other hand, consuming too much iron can damage the heart, liver, and immune system.

A healthy balance needs to be reached and adjusted as needed.
