High Protein Low Carbohydrate Diets
What is the difference between low fat and low carbohydrate dieting? Please explain the pros and cons of both along with diet
Low carb diets are established on the assumption that a diet extremely low in carbohydrates can cause a decrease in the body’s insulin yield, thus ensuring that the existing fat and protein that is stored in the body is used as the primary form of energy. The idea behind low carbohydrate diets is to forcibly drive the body to consume the stored fat as its primary energy reservoir. When this takes place a person starts to develop ‘ketone bodies’.
A ketone that is an intermediate product of the breakdown of fats in the body; any of three compounds found in excess in blood and urine of persons with metabolic disorders to furnish certain areas of the body that do not have the fat as an energy source - for example the brain cells, and red blood corpuscles to be specific. The production of ketone bodies can lead the individual to a state of ketosis.
Low Fat Dieting With Low Carbohydrates
An abnormal increase of ketone bodies in the blood as in diabetes mellitus - marked by bad breath odor and dangerous fallouts such as nausea and tiredness. In the short-run, those who do opt for a low carb diet do shed excess weight very quickly. But the bulk of the weight loss comes from the release of water and essential muscular tissue. The body does not lose fat as intended and hence dieters who go off the low-carb diet tend to regain the lost weight just as rapidly.
It is not advisable to go on low-carb diets as losing precious lean muscular tissue is akin to undermining one’s own body. Muscular tissue involves metabolism and a reduction in the quantity of muscular tissue can lead to a diminution in the amount of calories needed every day for the adequate maintenance of ideal body weight. Most people who opt for low carb diets do so as the weight loss is extremely speedy and almost instantaneous, despite being superficial. Low carb diets do not guarantee abiding weight loss or overall balanced health.
A low fat diet on the other hand is comparably safer if foods that are high in saturated fat, from fatty meats and whole milk are greatly reduced. Partially hydrogenated fats such as spreads made from vegetable oils and used as a substitute for butter and shortenings are also known to have harmful effects on the body and thus a reduction in such oils is also beneficial to the body. Most proponents of dietary plans would like us to think that a particular consistence or blending of foods will automatically cause loss in weight. Weight loss is however a combination of eating healthy and a daily exercise.
