Diet For Gallbladder Patients And Gall bladder Recovery
It is possible that you will experience temporary digestive difficulties after undergoing gallbladder removal surgery, or cholecystectomy. The main reason for this is because of the difficulty in digesting dietary fats. Fats and some fat-soluble vitamins need bile to be absorbed by your system. Normally the gallbladder stores bile produced by the liver. The gallbladder contracts, during meals, and bile is released into the intestine for fat absorption.
After cholecystectomy, the liver still continues to produce bile, but it is released continuously in a slow trickle into the intestine. As a result, when you eat a meal with a high fat content, the bile present in the intestine may not be adequate for proper absorption. The resultant change in the concentration of intestinal bile while digesting high fat food may also cause diarrhea or bloating. This happens because water is drawn into the intestine by the excess fat and because the bacterial digestion of fat releases gas. Diarrhea may also occur because of the presence of excess bile in the intestines in between meals.
Most people however do not suffer digestive difficulty after the removal and in most cases the diarrhea is only temporary. The bile production is enough to absorb both fats and vitamins that are needed by your body. There are still certain dietary guidelines or precautions that you can take after the removal.

After the removal the recommended diet would be one that is low fat. This is to avoid any possible digestive problems or to provide relief if any digestive difficulties have already surfaced. Levels of fat tolerance vary from individual to individual, so ideally your diet should be formulated by a dietician specifically to meet your needs. Some people chose to avoid fried foods, pastries, eggs, and other high-fat foods while others may eliminate spicy foods, cabbage, cucumbers, onions, and a few other vegetables from their diet.
Generally after a gallbladder removal a low fat diet is advisable for several weeks or even a few months after. A low fat diet can consist of non-fat milk, non-fat dairy products, vegetables, fruits, lean meats, and whole or enriched grains. High fiber foods like whole grains or brown rice will also help. Fried foods, processed meats, cream, butter, cheese. Non-dairy creamers, ice creams, pastries, egg yolks and gravy should be avoided. Eventually however, you will be able to return to a normal diet so long as you continue to eat in moderation. A healthy balanced diet will cause no problems. Only over indulgence and excessive consumption of certain foods can create problems.
