Advice on Type 2 Diabetes Diet
Type 2 diabetes is associated with the administration of insulin injections. Missing a meal or taking them late results in hypoglycaemia, which is a common associated complication of diabetes mellitus. Keeping a check on the calories is important. Glycaemic index is essential in choosing the right foods. Choose foods that have a low glycaemic index.
These foods help in releasing the glucose into the bloodstream in a slow manner. This helps in curtailing diabetes or high blood sugar. Diet and exercise are important along with the pill or injection. No factor performs individually to reduce the sugar levels. Weight loss is recommended, especially in obese diabetics. About 60 to 70 per cent of calories are obtained from carbohydrates.
Dietary fibre in the form of complex carbohydrate is helpful. Vegan diets are also considered effective in controlling diabetes. A lot of products are available commercially that promise to reduce the blood sugar levels. But, these are expensive and have a high degree of fat. Exercise helps in regulating the condition. At least 45 minutes of brisk walking keeps the system healthy. The type of insulin determines the time between administration and meal intake. Insulin is of quick acting, medium or long acting insulin.
