Advice on South Beach Diet
The right kind of fats and carbohydrates are chosen in the South Beach diet, which is away of life and not a diet by itself. Increased intake of refined foods and carbohydrate results in weight gain. Other health problems are also seen to occur. The individual is ultimately not deprived of good food or mouth watering food. Calorie counting and weighing of foods are not recommended.
Two snacks are considered with variety in the major meals. Three phases in the South beach diet are Phase 1 wherein carbohydrate restriction is seen. All other foods are allowed.
The first phase is for two weeks and is the most difficult and strict phase. Lean meats, such as fish, chicken, shellfish and turkey are effective. Nuts, eggs, low fat cheese and vegetables of low glycaemic index are recommended. A few of the foods that are abstained from in the initial phase is allowed in the second phase.
Effective insulin resistance is achieved by decreasing the intake of bad carbohydrates. About one or two pounds are lost in the second phase. The diet is followed till you achieve your target weight. Maintenance is the third phase, wherein the achieved weight control is regulated. Soft drinks, sweets and unhealthy fats are avoided.
