Advice on Renal Diet and Kidney
Renal diet helps in the regulation of the wastes in the kidneys. A single diet does not prove beneficial. The biochemical parameters are judged and form the basis of the diet. This helps in decreasing the burden of the kidneys. It helps in healthy kidneys.
Regulation of the intake of potassium, fluids, sodium and phosphorus help in keeping the kidney in a balance. Impairment in the kidneys cause an imbalance in is functioning. Renal diets help in overcoming such a situation. Individuals on dialysis require a careful diet restricted in potassium. The progression of renal disease is controlled by restricting the protein in the diet, especially for those on dialysis.
Sodium is controlled to maintain fluid balance in the body. Dialysis patients are advised to control the potassium, as hyperkalemia is a commonly associated condition. Fluids need to be exactly measured before administration. Every millilitre of sauce, soup, custard, jelly and so on is counted. Phosphate restriction calls for milk substitutes that are available commercially. Bone diseases and itchiness are common. Protein is normal in individuals with CKD and normal to high protein in the case of peritoneal dialysis. Salt substitutes are not preferred in the case of kidney failure. This is due to its potassium content.
