Low Calorie Diet for Weight Loss

The diet relies on fewer calories in the diet. This diet is especially suggested in individuals on weight loss and those undergoing surgery or any other complications. It is always recommended under the supervision of a medical team. There is increased probability of gall bladder disease, after following a low calorie diet. It is not suggested for children.


Products exist in the market which is of reduced calories. This is mixed with water and juice or any other low calorie liquid.

Consumption of 800 calories or less is referred to as VLCD or very low calorie diet. The required minerals, vitamins, proteins, fatty acids and trace elements are provided along with protein. Glycaemic control is brought about easily, by the low calorie diet. Metabolic processes are slow. The functioning of the brain and the central nervous system ceases, in course of time, making it an issue.

Anaemia and osteoporosis is also a common danger, when on low calorie diet. It might in turn affect the bleeding during menstruation. Reduced fibre results in constipation. It is life threatening and damages the vital organs. Hair and nail colour worsens. Electrolyte imbalance is seen to occur. A deficiency of serotonin causes depression and affects the psychological development.
