High Intake of Protein

A diet that is high in protein diet is usually suggested by muscle builders and specialists in the study of nutrition to help in building muscle and losing fat. However, most people tend to mix up high protein diets with the Atkins Diet. The Atkins Diet in this respect does not maintain a count of calories and although low-carbohydrate in nature, the recipes in Atkins Diet call for large amounts of fat.

There are a number of controversies related to both Atkins Diet as well as a high protein diet. Although protein is vital in ramping up skeletal muscles and other bodily tissues, there is currently a raging disputation with regards to the purpose and role and more importantly the requirement of very high protein in an individual's especially when he/she is in resistance training and bodybuilding.

A traditional menu example of a High Protein Diet usually taken by bodybuilders-

  • Steak/Luncheon meat and poached/scrambled eggs
  • A mug of tea/coffee
Lunch:

  • Salmon/tuna salad and bacon sandwich
  • A handful of nuts/dried fruits
Dinner:
  • Grilled fish (any) with steamed vegetables
  • Carbonated water (can be flavored if needed)
Snacks:
  • Small portion of nuts or dried fruits
  • Sandwiches made from peanut butter base
