Advice on Diet Supplements
Diet or dietary supplements are specially made preparations with important nutrients and vital ingredients needed by the body when the food consumed by the individual is not sufficient for the body to sustain. These supplements which are also sometimes known as food supplements are supposed to contain the right amounts of important vitamins, minerals, fatty acids or amino acids are supplied to the individual in the right quantity. In some countries such diet supplements are defined as drugs while in some others, they are simply termed as foods. Dietary supplements are usually herbal supplementations and may likely contain herbs, extracts from bark or root or leaves of a medicinal plant and other plant-derived substances that are non-medicinal in nature and may also contain hormonal preparations.
Individuals must be careful to read the small print on the labels of these diet supplements. The FDA has stated that any diet supplements that lays claim to curing, treating or mitigating any disease are unauthorized drugs, and consumptions of such unauthorized drugs without the supervision of a medical practitioner can lead to serious health hazards. Diet supplements are available in various forms, such as pills, capsules, pulverizations, soft gels, gel tablets, or liquids. Diet supplements are usually found in health food shops, grocery stores, drug stores and increasingly marketed through TV advertisements, through the Internet, and through direct sales.
