Advice on Glycemic Diet
The glycemic index is a system that ranks carbohydrates based on the resultant increase in blood sugar levels. Glucose is kept as the reference as its GI value is 100. Glycemic index is a sensitive way of carbohydrate debate. It decreases the risk of obesity, heart diseases and diabetes. It helps in weight loss. The nutrient composition of foods affects the glycemic index of a meal.
Certain foods high in fat have a low glycemic index, though it is not recommended for diabetics. The processing techniques of certain readymade foods also result in a higher glycemic index. Intake of foods with a low glycemic index promises the prevention of diabetes and ensures an increase in good cholesterol. A low glycemic index diet is suitable for diabetics, provided they take the guidance of their physician prior to consumption.
Intake of low glycemic index foods results in a steady source of energy and a steady source of blood glucose rise. A glycemic index diet enables the moderation of blood sugar levels and also controls the insulin levels. It improves the metabolic processes, thereby resulting in increased energy. The pangs of hunger are decreased, preventing overeating. It is an easy way of weight loss, provided the right foods are chosen.
