Alkaline Diet

Obesity seems to be a pressing concern in many parts of the world and there is now an increasing awareness of its ill effects on health. Besides the fact that obesity has a negative effect on a person’s aesthetic appeal, obesity is also one of the most common contributors to the development of serious conditions such as heart failure, high blood pressure and respiratory infections. As a direct result of the increasing focus on weight loss, a number of experts have developed diet and exercise regimes to help people fight the dangers of obesity and being overweight, naturally and in a healthy manner. There are now several diet plans for obesity that help the individual lose weight and as a result lower their risk of health problems. However not all diet plans have equal health benefits or are equally effective.

For instance, some methods of weight loss, like crash dieting, are likely to do more damage than good with the fact that these plans are restrictive and place a great amount of stress on the individual’s system. An acid alkaline diet is one of the more highly recommended diet plans and is based around the residue that these types of foods leave behind in the body after they have been consumed.

An Acid alkaline diet is often considered to be very effective in the treatment of a number of diseases and other conditions even though it is better to simply use this diet plan in an attempt to simply lose weight. An over indulgence in acidic foods should be avoided as there are a number of conditions that could spring up if the body is too acidic or alkaline. The pH value of the food is the primary constituent of what makes it an alkaline or acidic food. As far as the pH values go – a pH value of 7 means that the food is neutral while any foods with a pH vale higher than 7 is said to be alkaline and anything below is said to be of acid. Foods such as asparagus, leeks, watercress, tomatoes, rhubarb, lentils and many other fruits and vegetables are all alkaline foods and should be included in adequate amounts in an Acid alkaline diet. Meats and dairy products are acidic in nature and so they should be consumed in smaller quantities. Vegetable oils and hydrogenated oils are acidic and so you can use alkaline options such as coconut oil and olive oil instead. An acidic alkaline diet generally minimizes the amount of acidic foods that an individual consumes.

The alkaline diet benefits help people deal with conditions such as a lack of energy, nasal congestion, a headache, the development of ovarian cysts and anxiety, nervousness and irritability. You should consult your doctor before you start the Acid alkaline diet as it is not recommended for those with acute or chronic kidney failure.

Food with Alkaline

Alkaline diet also referred to as acid alkaline diet or alkaline acid diet focuses on grains, legumes, fruits and vegetables. The pH of human blood is 7.35 to 7.45. A diet with foods that are acid producing results in a decrease in the pH levels, thereby resulting in the loss of minerals, namely sodium, potassium, calcium and magnesium. The balance of the system is disturbed, causing problems in the equilibrium. This increases the risk of illnesses in individuals. An alkaline diet is prescribed specially, when an individual suffers from headache, lack of energy, nasal congestion, cold and flu, irritability, nervousness, anxiety, excessive mucous production, benign breast cysts, ovarian cysts and polycystic ovaries. Alkaline diets are not recommended for individuals suffering from renal diseases. Individuals on medicines affecting the potassium levels and those with heart problems are restricted from alkaline diets. Osteoporosis, muscle wasting and renal stones (calcium) are prevented by the intake of alkaline diets. Chocolates, bananas, water melon, figs, spinach and potatoes are very acidic foods. Vegetables in alkaline category are Brussels sprouts, cabbage, peas, lettuce, garlic, green beans, celery, radish, cauliflower, cucumber and asparagus. Fruits such as rhubarb, lemon, avocado, grape fruit and tomatoes are alkaline.
