Alternative Treatment for Weight Gain

The causes of weight gain could be environmental and genetic as well as psychological and cultural and physiologic mechanisms.

Many of the hormonal and neural factors involved in weight regulation are determined genetically. A small defect in the genetic expression can lead to weight gain. The size and number of fat cells, distribution of fat in our body and metabolic rate are determined genetically. We have a susceptibility to become fat if our parents are fat.

Food and its taste elements can evoke pleasure leading to weight gain. Variety of foods when served at a given time can lead to multiple choices causing over consumption of foods and thus calories as compared to when single food is served.

It is not always that over eating be the cause for weight gain. Deficiency of thyroid hormone or hypothyroidism can decrease the body metabolism thus leading to weight gain.

Certain foods can lead to gas formation and bloating and can lead to swelling of the eyes, hands and feet. The swelling occurs due to fluid retention in the body that occurs due to body's reaction to certain foods.

Stress and depression can lead to overeating leading to weight gain. Even overeating takes place while watching television and reading books.

Excess of hormone cortisol can lead to accumulation of fat in our face, abdomen and back thus giving a moon face and buffalo hump look.
