Advice on Weight Gain during Pregnancy

Weight gain and eating a healthy diet during pregnancy ensures good health and nutrition for the baby as well as for the mother. You need not double up the calories to support the phrase 'eat for two'. The quality of food which you eat is important; you need to increase only 200-300 calories more ideally according to your needs. A healthy women with an ideal body weight would need to gain approximately 25 pounds during pregnancy, however if a women is underweight or overweight the needs would increase or decrease accordingly. Women should not go on any diet even she is obese, although she should gain less weight but she should not lose weight during pregnancy in any case. Have you ever wondered where this extra weight goes or why it is important to increase this much weight during pregnancy. Pregnancy is a stage where a women body undergoes a lot of change to support a new life in her. The baby would weigh about 8 pounds, the amniotic fluid, breast tissue and placenta would weigh 2-3 pounds each, blood supply increases which would account for 4 pounds, fat stores are increased to support breast feeding and delivery that accounts for about 5-9 pounds and the increased uterus accounts 2-5 pounds. So to support these healthy changes in the body weight gain during pregnancy is extremely important.
