Bad Carbs
Carbohydrates are basically the sugars that are used by the body as a source of energy as the body is able to break down the various carbohydrate rich foods efficiently and effectively. One should be able to distinguish between good carbs and bad carbs. So what are bad carbs and good carbs? Good carbohydrates are those foods that are consumed when they are in their natural state or in a state that is as close as possible to their natural state. The good carb foods are not altered by machines or people and are not processed.
As a result good carb foods are high in their fiber content which provides the individual with energy for a longer period of time and also helps in eliminating toxins from the body besides lowering the cholesterol levels. On the other hand, bad carb foods are those that have been processed or refined which results in most of their nutritional value being removed or destroyed as they cease to remain in their natural state. Additionally bad carb foods are known to be loaded with plenty of additives such as preservatives, colorings and flavorings. Most of the bad carb foods tend to be packaged for easy handling and are also very tasty. It is important to make a list of bad carbs and the foods that contain them so that you can avoid them. However bad carb foods are known to cause a spike in the blood glucose level of an individual and are also difficult to digest. The list of bad carbs includes foods such as baked gods with refined white flour, sodas, candy and white pastas. Those people who consume too many bad carb foods are known to gain weight over a period of time which may also result in obesity and them being overweight along with related medical issues. The calories provided by bad carbs tend to be empty calories as they offer no nutritional value to the individual and instead put the individual at the risk of diseases such as heart disease, cardio vascular problems and diabetes. Those individuals who consume bad carbs are known to observe a spike in their energy levels after eating these foods, however there is also a rapid fall in the energy levels shortly thereafter. Bad carb foods are also known to create a dramatic surge in the production of insulin which in turn puts extra pressure on the pancreas thereby causing the body to store fat. The other common example of bad carb foods are jelly, jams, candies, puddings, custards, cookies, and cakes. You can paste your list of bad carbs in a prominent place such as on your cooking cabinet so that you can plan your diet accordingly.
