Function and Features of Carbohydrates

Yes a list which has the carbohydrate contents of different foods will certainly help you to make wise choices when you are on a carbohydrate diet or carbohydrate restricted diet. This list will be of utmost importance when you are counting carbohydrates in your diet. A carbohydrate list will help you to select between good carbs and bad carbs too. Good carbs are simple those carbohydrates which does not have a major impact on your blood sugar levels that is which does not cause the blood glucose levels to spike or drop drastically. This is a very important aspect because when there are drastic changes in the blood sugar levels you tend to either feel shaky, hungry, nauseous and dizzy.

Bad carbs on the other hand present in sugar, refined and processed foods can cause the blood sugar levels to go high immediately after consumption as most of the time it lacks many nutrients and fiber. One gram of carbohydrate would provide 4 calories and thus calorie counting gets easier when you have a list which states how many carbohydrates are present in a particular food. For example a tsp of sugar (5 gm) would provide 20 calories and a medium sized banana would provide 100 calories.
