Low Carb Diet

Low carb diets are gaining popularity in recent years. Before you start on one let me shell out some information which can be helpful for you to take decision. Different low carb diets that are famous include Atkins diet, The Zone diet, South Beach diet and Carb Addicts. As the name suggests in a low carb diet carbohydrates are taken in very limited amounts and the focus is more on fats and proteins. It is obvious that if you eliminate carbohydrates from your diet it will effectively decrease the production of glucose which helps regulate weight and blood glucose in the body. Our body uses glucose as a preferred source of energy and since in a low carb diet glucose or carbohydrates are limited, body used the stored glucose from the body tissues for energy. When the stored carbohydrates (glucose) are used for energy water is produced or lost along with it. Thus the resultant weight loss is actually water loss from the body. Once the body uses all the stored glucose for energy it then turns to proteins and fats for energy. You will have to restrict the amount or say good bye to all starchy foods like potato, cereals, breads, pastas, cookies and much more. But the happy part is you can include lots of good fats and high quality protein like bacon, butter, eggs, fish and cheese. Some plan may allow little serving of whole grains and vegetables but some might restrict. A low carb diet is difficult to follow in a long run and a person tends to gain the lost weight immediately as he switches to his normal diet and lifestyle routine.
