Gall bladder diet

Gall bladder is a sac, in the shape of a pear. It is located under the liver. Gall bladder secretes the bile, which in turn helps in breaking the fats and helps in its absorption. Disease of the gall bladder hinders this mechanism. Hence a low fat diet is recommended.

Starchy foods, such as bread, rice and cereals are preferred. Red meat is generally avoided. Fried foods are abstained form, as fat is a burden on the bladder.

Gallstones are also avoided. Any kind of saturated, hydrogenated, Trans and partially hydrogenated fats are not included in the diet. Fresh fruits and vegetables are beneficial, especially if organic. Green leaves, in the form of salads are useful. Flax seed oil, vinegar and olive oil are helpful as salad dressings. Spices, such as turmeric and ginger in the diet enhance the digestion. They possess antiseptic properties.

Smaller meals are preferred, rather than larger meals. Grapes, apples, currants, prunes, papaya, avocadoes, melons, tomatoes, berries, guava, figs and melons are the fruits that are considered safe. Carrots, brinjal, garlic sweet potato, beets and garlic are the preferred vegetables.
