When we speak of hair and hair growth, it refers to hair that grows on the head of an individual. The human body is covered in hair follicles. Genetic and racial characteristics determine the type and thickness of hair found on the body. Males tend to develop more hair than women on their bodies. It is common to have hair on the arms, legs and back.


Facial hair is a sign of masculinity and is less common in women. Chest hair is also considered to be a sign of masculinity. The hair on the head is significant for its visual significance to the appearance of an individual. Millions of dollars are spent on hair care products so that the appearance of the hair suits the individual exactly. However, one area is often neglected when it comes to hair growth.

The diet of an individual may help or hinder the growth and appearance of hair. Hair is considered to be an extension of the individual’s health. A healthy individual will generally have thick hair that appears smooth and healthy. Apart from the different hair types which are genetically determined, it is easy to tell a health individual from an unhealthy individual when one analyses the hair of the individual.

One can consume food good for hair growth to improve the health of the hair. Such foods are likely to improve other aspects of the individual’s health as well. Food that is good for your hair is usually food that is good for your body in general. There are some specific foods that have been found to benefit the individual when it comes to the health of the individual. Foods that contain protein and iron tend to promote good hair growth according to scientists. A common food good for hair growth is spinach. Most dark green leafy vegetables are good for hair growth. Broccoli is another good example of a vegetable that is good for the hair. One may also try beans as they are considered to be good for the health of the body and also for the hair.

Poultry and eggs are considered to be good for hair growth. Both these foods contain plenty of protein. Protein is the foundation block for all tissue growth and this will help with hair growth as well. Salmon is another food item that can be used to promote the health and growth of hair. Salmon is full of protein and contains omega 3 acids as well. One will find the vitamin B12 and iron in salmon fish as well.

All these substances feature in the dietary requirements of a human being. The consumption of this fish will help the general health of the individual greatly. Low fat dairy products are also good for the hair. Dairy products are a good source for proteins and are therefore considered in the classification of food that is good for your hair. Whole grain cereals are also considered to be better for hair growth when compared with refined grain cereals.

Diet for good hair:-

  • You should take soup of green vegetables and tomato.
  • In night time, after dinner, you should take trifla power (Hara, bahera and awalah) in honey with milk.
  • In dinner, you should take curd daily.
  • Seanoal vegetables, such as cucumber, spinach and fenugreek seeds, you must added in your diet.
  • Every day you should put the paste of yoghurt with trifla in your hair for 45 minutes and then wash with warm water.
