Diabetes Diet List

Diabetes diet list encompasses all the foods included for a diabetic. A practical approach is necessary for planning this list. The foods that are accepted by a diabetic individual and are of low glycaemic index are seen. Cereals form the base and six to eleven servings are recommended as whole grains, cereals, pulses and legumes. Vegetables and fruits provide complex carbohydrates, phyto nutrients, anti oxidants, vitamins and minerals. Vegetables and fruits are taken as fresh and whole, instead of opting for tinned ones.

The sugar or salt content is high in preserved foods, processed foods and bakery foods are restricted. Turnips, broccoli, green pepper, cauliflower are some of the vegetables considered. Fruits such as oranges, apples, papaya and guava are recommended. Mangoes, Sapodillas, banana and grapes are not allowed. Skimmed milk and related fat free products are accepted. Low fat milk is also preferred. Saturated and Trans fats are prohibited. Butter, clarified butter, margarine and vanaspathi are some of them. Refined oils are preferred. Animal foods provide proteins, such as fish, poultry and lean meat. Red meats are not recommended, due to the presence of marbled fat. Egg white is included, devoid of egg yolk.

Free foods are those that provide less than 20 grams of carbohydrates. Some of them are low sugar jellies, jams, broth or bouillon, sugar free coffee and tea and diet soft drinks. They fail to have a great impact on the health. Drinking enough water removes the toxins from the body. Diet drinks are not recommended often, as aspartame in them have a lot of side effects. Carbonated beverages or the fizzy drinks provide calories that are empty, without any other essential nutrients. Alcohol and smoking are not allowed. Exercise on a daily basis for half an hour is helpful, in conjunction with a healthy diet.
