Mediterranean Diet Diabetes 

Diabetes is a result of faulty diet characterized by high amount of saturated fats, cholesterol and refined sugar.However, Mediterranean diet is considered to have beneficial effects as it can reduce the susceptibility towards formation of heart diseases as well as metabolic syndrome. The features of Mediterranean diet are as follows: High consumption of fruits, vegetables, potatoes, nuts, beans and seeds, Olive oil, Moderate to low consumption of dairy products, fish and poultry, Low consumption of red meat, Eggs consumed per week, low to moderate amounts of wine.

Mediterranean style diet Contain a high percent of calories from fat. However the form of fat present in such diets is monounsaturated fats which can reduce the cholesterol levels in an efficient manner as compared to saturated fats. Longevity is associated with non smoking, no alcohol, Mediterranean diet and physical activity. This can help in avoiding terrible consequences of diabetes and the mortality is reduced due to this diet.


This diet has greater reduction in insulin resistance and low levels of interleukin 18 and C reactive protein which are the markers of cardiovascular risk.
