Tasty Tiffin - Tasty Life
April 26, 2011
There are probably a number of things that you need to keep a track off when sending your child to school. From ensuring that he has completed his homework to checking that he is neatly dressed; mornings can be quite hectic for mothers. Providing your child with a healthy tiffin is another very important aspect, which must not be taken lightly. The mind grows and develops when it absorbs knowledge. In much the same way, the body grows strong when it receives the right kind of nutrients. Here are some tips for preparing healthy, nutritious and tasty tiffin foods for your child.
Children, by nature enjoy junk food like chips, burgers and pizzas.
But as parents, it is important to ensure that your child is getting the proper nourishment to meet his daily requirements. It is essential to make eating healthy food a habit right from the start. This will prevent fussiness and problems later on in the child’s life.
Take time out to identify and determine the nutritional value of various foods so that you are able to decide what is best for your child’s needs. Before packing any food in your child’s tiffin, spend some time in assessing if the food will provide any nutritional value to your child’s health. Tiffin meals must be balanced and healthy and must consist of all the important components such as protein, vitamins, minerals and carbohydrates.
Also, make a note of what your child likes and doesn’t like as it is highly likely that if he doesn’t like a certain food, the tiffin will come back untouched.
It is very easy to prepare healthy and balanced tiffins while keeping in mind your child’s likes and dislikes. Also adding variety now and then, in addition to attractive garnishes and decoration will work well in ensuring that your child enjoys and appreciates the tiffin you pack for him. If you force down certain foods on the child, he is likely to resist and this will probably continue later on in life as well.
Some of the best foods to pack into your child’s tiffin includes vegetable sticks along with different types of dips and sandwiches wherein you can try out different types of fillings and breads. Some tasty fillings include tuna, salmon, egg, cheese spread or baked beans. Pastas made with plenty of vegetables or fried rice with steamed vegetables are also good options. Bagels, rice cakes, whole grain breads or fruits buns also serve as light and healthy tiffin snacks.
