Stress is one of the biggest problems faced by people today. It affects our lives and creates havoc with our physical and mental health. It also affects the digestive system to a great extent. If you’re upset and stressed out about something no matter what you eat your body will not be able to absorb the nutrient it requires from the food you eat.

The food you eat plays a key role in helping your body deal with stress we encounter everyday.

There are certain foods that add to the stress and some that help you deal with it and neutralize the negative effects it has. It is very important for us to understand what foods we need to have in order to help us lead happier stress free lives.

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.

You could start your day with a bowl of cereal and half a cup of 2 percent milk. Add some nuts to such as almonds to your bowl of cereal as they are rich in vitamin E and this helps fight the damage caused by stress. You could also add fruits such as berries as they are rich in antioxidants like vitamin C, which helps keep the stress hormone cortisol steady.

Such a breakfast is packed with the essential carbohydrates and vitamins you need to kick start your day. For Lunch you could have some grilled salmon or chicken and some broccoli. Salmon and broccoli have Vitamin B which helps fight stress and chicken has tryptophan in it which helps you sleep well hence elevating the chances of a bad mood leading to stress.

If you don’t like broccoli then try melting some cheese and butter on it after it’s cooked it tastes a lot better. Dinner should be the classic chili, the beans have protein, the meat has vitamin B and the tomato acts as an antioxidant all of these ingredients help fight stress. Some other food that help you distress are dark green leafy vegetables such as spinach and kale. These calm your nerves and provide vitamin B complex. Avocados are also rich in vitamin B. Asparagus is another rich source of folic acid, which is important as it prevents irritability, fatigue and depression.

In conclusion always remember to eat in pleasant stress free atmosphere. Eat enough to repress your hunger never over eat as it could make you lethargic, sleepy and inactive and finally if you suffer from excessive stress, eat foods that help you fight stress.
