The grass is always greener on the other side. While the majority of the world’s population is trying to lose excess weight and become fit, there are also those who want to gain weight. Sadly, if you are blessed with skinny genes, it is as difficult for you to gain weight as it is for an obese person to lose it. Both weight loss and weight gain require a healthy diet plan, dedication, and discipline.
In order to gain weight you must follow these steps:
- First and the foremost, determine how many calories you need every day.
For this start counting the calories you eat without changing your diet. You need to be very accurate in determining the calories you have been consuming.
- After you have found out the amount of calories you were eating, start eating 500 more calories than before. For example, if you were consuming 2000 calories per day, now make it 2500 calories per day.
You need these extra calories because you want to gain weight. Eating extra calories does not mean that you should start eating food which is rich in fats. Always avoid foods that contain bad fats like red meat or sausages.
The diet for gaining weight must include bananas. Eating two bananas with milk after workouts is very helpful in gaining weight at a much faster rate.
- Foods to help gain weight include milk products like butter and cheese, sweet foods, fruits like mango and animal foods like chicken and beef.
- Start going to a gym. Seek the advice of your gym instructor to find out how to exercise to gain weight.
Working out is a very important factor in any weight gain program.
- Check your weight every two weeks. You will be happy to find that you have started gaining weight. Do not expect any miracles and don’t get impatient. You will gain weight gradually, so it may not really register if you check it on a weekly basis. It may be at the rate of one to two pounds per week depending upon your exercise and diet plan.
- After a couple of weeks or so, you may find that you have stopped gaining weight as per your expectations. In that case, you will need to eat even more calories. You should add another 250 calories to your diet.
- Besides consuming extra calories and following workout plans, do drink a lot of water. You should drink at least five to seven liters of water each day.
