Submitted by Loring A. Windblad on July 6, 2010

Food has a direct impact on our bodies and souls. It is very important to maintain our eating habits according to our bodies’ requirements. Eating fresh food has more nutritious value as compared to preserved food. Our bodies’ requirements change according to the seasons, and so, it is important to consume seasonal food. Seasonal food has its own importance and helps our bodies cope with the sudden changes which can cause harm to our bodies.

For example, eating fresh salads in the hot summer, and eating beans or root vegetables during cold winters optimizes body temperature and relaxes the mind. Eating seasonal food not only maintains your body, but also maintains a good ecosystem.
Here are a few benefits of seasonal eating:
  • Seasonal food is cheap when compared to food that is preserved or non-seasonal. The reason behind this is that non-seasonal food needs special care and attention for preservation.

They come from distant places and include transportation costs as well.
  • Seasonal food lasts long when you preserve them. The reason is that non-seasonal food reaches the market quite some time after they have plucked.

As a result non-seasonal food starts rotting much before they reach the market.
  • Seasonal food is tastier than non-seasonal food. The reason behind this is that non-seasonal food is plucked before ripening; so, they do not to complete their entire growth period.
  • Seasonal food is more nutritious than non-seasonal food.

Seasonal food contains fresh vitamins and minerals. For example, some citrus fruits start decaying soon after they are plucked. Research has shown that food grown during season has more nutrition compared to the food grown off-season.
  • Seasonal food has a direct effect on the body as it maintains optimal health. It helps in healing and enhances daily performance by boosting energy.
