Diet Tips for Treating Obesity

Submitted by Serena Mason on May 31, 2010

Obesity is a condition that is accompanied by numerous problems and thus one should try and stay as slim and trim as possible to be healthy and fit. There are numerous ways by which one can reduce the fat in their diets and control weight gain. People who are obese are more prone to heart problems, problems in movement, are more likely to get fatigued and depressed, and could also be lethargic and tired.

There are myriad ways to help one lose this weight starting with drinking plenty of fluids and juices and most importantly drinking plenty of water. Water helps to flush out the toxins in one’s system and also helps in giving the person a feeling of being full thus preventing them from eating too much.

Water helps a person’s body to metabolize all the food that has been consumed and convert this into energy. Hence keeping the body well hydrated helps an obese person in burning fats and calories. The daily stipulated calories required by a woman are about 1200 and for a man are about 1800 of their daily intake.

If a person concentrates on eating three good meals in a day then this should cover their nutritional requirement. When one eats steadily it also ensures that their sugar levels do not suddenly dip thus causing one to get tired or fatigued too quick. One should avoid binge eating as this can cause the body a lot of damage.

Similarly putting one’s body on a crash diet is not a healthy way of losing weight.

A good and healthy weight loss can be achieved by doing the correct mix of dieting and also of exercise. One’s diet should include some good carbohydrates. These include food stuff like pulses, whole grains and vegetables.

Another portion of the meal should consist of proteins. These proteins can be found in foods like fish, pulses, lean meat and low fat dairy products. The remainder of one’s meal should comprise of the good fats like nuts, cold pressed oils and some seeds. One should not just aim to cover their calorie requirement as there are some foods like ground wheat and ground chick peas mat contain the same calories but benefits will differ. Try and eat plenty of fruits and vegetables as these are a great source of iron, folic acid, fiber and nutrition. In fact those who wish to lose weight often follow a vegan diet or a vegetarian diet.
