Eating very large meals makes digestion very difficult and too long or too short a gap between meals also disrupts the digestive process.


It is thus important to maintain regular eating habits in addition to a healthy diet in order to treat indigestion.

You can regularize your eating habits with the help of a few simple tips. Firstly, if you suffer from indigestion, try to eat smaller meals and increase the frequency of these meals.


Smaller meals make the digestion process easier, while eating frequently prevents the formation of acidity in the stomach. Acidity is a very common cause of indigestion and is caused primarily by irregular eating habits.

In addition to eating smaller meals, ensure that you chew your food well before swallowing to make the process of digestion easier.


Finally, ensure that you do not slouch or lie down immediately after a meal as this may interfere with your digestion process and lead to indigestion. This is especially true for dinner, where you should ensure that there is at least a three hour gap between your meal and bed time.

You can take a brisk ten minute walk everyday after dinner to help digest your food well before sleeping.


This will help treat indigestion effectively. In addition to regulating your eating habits, you should also regulate your diet to help treat indigestion. For instance, you should avoid eating foods that may aggravate your indigestion. Such foods include rich, fatty and spicy food or any food that is difficult to digest. Fatty and spicy foods very often lead to indigestion and you should exercise moderation while consuming them.

Avoid caffeinated beverages like cola and coffee as they tend to aggravate indigestion. Alcoholic beverages can also lead to indigestion and should be avoided to help relieve symptoms of indigestion. Increase your consumption of ginger and garlic as they are very beneficial to the digestive process. In addition, increase your consumption of green, leafy vegetables to help increase your intake of fiber and in order to regulate bowel movements.
