The pH level of our body is generally 7.3 and thus, is more alkaline rather than acidic. There are a whole lot of benefits that you can derive from eating alkaline foods. It is recommended that out of your total diet, 70 to 80 percent of the food should consist of alkaline food and the remaining 20 to 30 percent should constitute of foods that are acidic in nature. Alkaline foods are also necessary if you want to stay away from any illnesses and diseases as they aid in fighting free radicals that are primarily responsible for a number of diseases. Signs of aging can also be delayed to some extent by eating such food. It also promotes weight loss and thus, is very popular among the health conscious people. Foods high in alkaline play a key role in eliminating waste out of your body. When you indulge in eating the wrong food, particularly, those that are acidic, it results in the production of toxins in the body which in turn stimulate growth of unhealthy cells.
Alkaline foods list includes a number of fruits, vegetables and drinks. Few of these vegetables include cabbage, artichoke, onion, lettuce, asparagus, radish, cauliflower, spinach, peas, red cabbage, broccoli, cucumber, garlic, celery, carrots, turnip, chives and Brussels sprouts to name a few. Fruits that are highly alkaline include avocado, tomato, lemon, grapefruit and lime. Herbal tea, juice made of fresh vegetables, almond milk, vegetable broth, non sweetened soy milk and all green drinks are alkaline. There are a lot of seeds, grains and nuts that are highly alkaline and these include lentils, almonds, sunflower seeds, flax seed oil, sesame seeds, pumpkin, cumin seeds and so on. There are a number of alkaline food recipes that you can prepare at home without much effort. One such recipe includes taking a small pumpkin and baking it in the oven till it has turned soft. After that, you peel off the skin, mash the pumpkin and mix it with 300 grams of flour (gluten free), 2 teaspoons of baking powder and a teaspoon of Italian seasoning. You then, knead the dough for which you might need to add a little water. After that, prepare small cakes out of the dough and bake them for about half an hour. This is a great alkaline recipe and tastes delicious too. Alkaline drinks by using grapefruit and lemon are also very healthy. In this case, you mix the juice of two large grapefruits, 4 lemons and add some water, crushed garlic and ginger juice and have it as a drink for refreshing yourself. You can even prepare vegetable broth wherein you need two carrots, two beetroots, two celery tops, three cups of celery stock, two cups of water, 2 cups of red potatoes that have been peeled and one zucchini. Boil all of these together after you have washed them and simmer for half an hour after which you can strain all the vegetables and have the broth. |
